Carole's Statement

As a strong advocate for rent control, I have seen firsthand how Berkeley’s rent control laws have protected seniors, persons with disabilities, and those facing life changes from displacement due to rising rents. These protections are essential in ensuring that our most vulnerable residents can remain in their homes. I also recognize the importance of supporting small landlords who provide affordable, well-maintained housing and respond to tenants' needs. To strengthen this framework, we must increase outreach efforts so that tenants, especially the most vulnerable, are fully informed of their rights and remedies. As a 25-year tenant in Berkeley and with over 15 years of service on various City of Berkeley advisory commissions, I have consistently advocated for budgetary oversight to ensure that city funds are used wisely and with accountability. My policy and funding recommendations have focused on homelessness mitigation, housing equity, and planning, with a particular emphasis on women's issues and equitable housing policies.Through a pragmatic and analytical approach, I have crafted balanced positions aligned with the Rent Stabilization Ordinance, aiming to protect vulnerable community members while fostering diversity. Moving forward, my focus will remain on three critical priorities: preventing tenant displacement, combating housing discrimination, and ensuring accessible housing for persons with disabilities.

Carole's campaign is grassroots and budget-driven, relying on small donors and open-source resources to run a citywide campaign across a city of over 130,000 residents.

Even with public financing, the campaign does not expect to raise anywhere close to $15,000 to run citywide
